DRESS CODE FOR STAFF AND CILTs

So many styles.  So many choices.  So many opinions.  We are instructed in scripture to dress modestly, but culture and times have a way of redefining what that means.  Colossians 3:17 provides a life-style directive and a focus for being.  "Whatever you do, whether in word or deed (or in manner of dress) do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, giving thanks to the Father through Him."  The focus of our ministry and the desire of hearts is to point campers and staff to Jesus--not to be a distraction by drawing them to ourselves.  Many years ago I was greatly impacted by a verse carved in the chapel podium at Westmont College.  The mission statement for every speaker, every singer, every announcement giver was "Sirs, we would see Jesus."  Important questions for us to ask are:  What is the mission of Camp Cherith?  What image do we want Camp Cherith staff to project?  What are the expectations of churches and parents we serve?  We have looked at guidelines that have emerged in other arenas and have chosen these standards for dress:

  • Outer clothing needs to cover undergarments.  If your underwear shows when you bend over,  your shorts are too short or your tops are cut too low.
  • Tops need to be loose fitting.
  • No halter tops.
  • No midriff tops.  (Tops need to cover when you do the "raising your arms above your head" test.
  • Shoulder straps need to be at least one inch.
  • Wear undergarments (females must wear bra).
  • Modest bathing suits (this usually means one piece).
  • No gang attire.
  • No body piercing, other than ears.
