WHY
CHOOSE CHERITH?
Camp
Cherith is a unique Christian camp offering separate camping experiences
for girls and boys. Our motto "Christ in every facet
of life" is reflected in a variety of activities: Morning Watch, Bible
Exploration, archery, crafts,
hiking, swimming, gold panning, signing, campfires . . . and more.
Programming
A major goal of Camp Cherith is to help each camper realize that
Christ can be a part of every facet of his/her life. Bible
Exploration is designed to enable campers to discover for themselves
the realities of Scripture and its relevance to life today. All programming is Christ centered, we belive that children need to know that they are loved and have a future.
Variety is a key in programming. Camp Cherith provides
a balance of fun, learning and relaxation. Activities
are geared to the age-level of campers. The electives
are activities that campers are not as likely to experience at
home or in Pioneer Clubs.
Pioneer Clubs® Camp Cherith®
Camp Cherith is the registered
name of all Pioneer Clubs' camps throughout the United States and
Canada. It is open to all girls and boys, regardless
of race, color, national origin, age sex or handicap. Camp
Cherith complements the Pioneer Clubs' program, but it is not
necessary to be a member of a Pioneer Club to attend camp.
The name Cherith (pronounced ker' ith) comes from the story of the
prophet Elijah (I Kings 17). God brought Elijah to the
Brook Cherith for rest and refreshment. It was a time
to regroup in preparation for the tasks ahead. Camp Cherith today
is an opportunity to draw aside from everyday routines and sharpen
your focus on God.

Membership in the Association of Cherith Camps allows us to share ideas with other Camp Cheriths across the nation and Canada. This association also serves as an accountability partner helping us keep our focus on why we do camp... "To bring children and adults into a dynamic relationship with Jesus Christ.".

As a Christian camp striving
for excellence, Camp Cherith feels that it is important to be affiliated
with Christian Camping and Conference Association. We have benefited
greatly from this association.
ACA Accredited
High standards of quality camping in the areas of health, safety,
staffing and programming are maintained and meet American Camping
Association requirements. We have been an ACA acredited camp for many years.
Health
Adequate rest is provided in the camp schedule for each camper according
to his/her age. Meals are carefully planned to insure
a nutritionally balanced diet that tastes good.
A licensed nurse is on the site. A physician is on call. If
necessary, 24-hour emergency room care is available at accredited
hospitals in the area.
Safety
It is important to be prepared. Camp Cherith has effective
emergency procedures and safety rules. Trained staff
form emergency teams. 'Fire drills" help campers know
what to do, just in case.
Tent divisions are located near the center of camp. Large
tents having a capacity of 7-8 campers are placed relatively close
together and counselors sleep in the immediate area.
Staffing
Because Camp Cherith
is concerned about the individual camper as well as groups, the
maximum counselor-camper ratio is kept at 1:6 for grade 2, 1:7 for
grades 3-6 and 1:8 for junior high and high school, if at all possible.
Counselors must be at least 19 years old or 18 years old and have
completed one year of college or its equivalent (exception: Camp
Cherith CILT graduates). Training in counseling skills
and activity leadership are provided prior to camp. Preparation
is necessary and excellent resources are provided.
Non-counseling staff make up a support system that can enable counselors
to better meet the needs of their campers.
